Here is HOW it works:

Some of San Diego's top Architects and Designers will be competing by voluntarily "Pro-Bono" designing, two lucky San Diego Home owners projects.  Two large cash prizes will the be awarded and donated to a local San Diego charity of the designers choice. The designers will pick the local San Diego charity, before the competition, from a list provided to them.

    Construction Industry suppliers, Local Franchisees and other merchants, i.e. Grocery Stores, consumer electronics stores, Resorts, Casinos, travel companies, etc.. from around San Diego are being contacted to sign up as sponsors and raffle contributors. The sponsorship revenue plus revenue raised at the home show from the sale of raffle tickets will be combined to go towards the two cash prizes for the designers two pre-selected Local San Diego Charities of choice.

Homeowners:  If you need a very creative conceptual design for an upcoming remodel or addition to your home, or if you're looking for a creative conceptual design to make the best use of your outdoor space, we encourage you to visit either the BHI-Builders, Inc. Booth or the Ocean Blue Pools and Landscape, Inc Booth and register. You will be required to fill out a Design Questionnaire and you will be automatically entered in the San Diego Designer Contest that we are presenting. We will be selecting one home owner, from each category, that has the most challenging and interesting requirements. The designers will then have 30 days to complete the design. At a later date we will invite all designers and homeowners to make and receive presentations. Whomever designers the home owners pick as their favorite design in each category, will win the cash prizes for Charity, a Trophy presented by BHI and OB and we hope a renewed awareness in or Local Community. We hope that you will stop by and buy a few raffle tickets for chances to win  thousands of dollars worth of raffle prizes of which the revenue from said sales will be being donated as well. (All proceeds from the raffle will go to the two Designer winners Local SD charities of choice in combination with Sponsorship money)

WHY:

We invite local TV and Press media to cover this event and hope that they appreciate the significance of the Contest. One,  for the Charities that will receive the immediate benefit, and two, for the alternative motive of stimulating interest within the San Diego Home owner base to utilize Architects and the designers to help them save money in Design/Build projects.

      Working with clients everyday, we see how the lack of a concise design, prior to project start, does not save the home owner money but only creates confusion and inadvertently creates opportunity for some contractors to practice tricky techniques to be the "low bid". For example: "Change Orders" have become a very popular technique among these Contractors. A Good design ensures that the home owner gets an "apples to apples" bid from contractors. It gives each contractor an exact representation of the home owner's requirements and leaves no room for speculation. In all cases a good design process creates a more happy home owner. As always and especially in this competitive environment, we want to see our fellow San Diegans get the best bang for their buck & It all starts with a good imagination and a great design.
